Every treatment begins with an individualized assessment of your facial anatomy, muscle movement, concerns and goals. Your treatment and dosing are then customized specifically for you.

Neuromodulators are injectable medications that temporarily reduce the activity of specifically targeted muscles.

Repeated facial expressions—such as frowning, smiling, squinting and raising the eyebrows—cause the muscles beneath the skin to contract. Over time, these repeated movements can contribute to lines that become visible even when the face is at rest.

By carefully treating selected muscles, neuromodulators can soften expression lines while maintaining natural facial movement and expression.

Neuromodulators are incredibly versatile. While forehead and frown lines are some of the most familiar treatment areas, treatment can be customized to address movement throughout the face.

Horizontal forehead lines develop from repeatedly raising the eyebrows. Strategic treatment can soften these lines while preserving appropriate eyebrow movement and expression.

The vertical lines that develop between the eyebrows—sometimes called the “11 lines”—are caused by repeated contraction of the muscles used when frowning or concentrating.Neuromodulator treatment can soften these lines and help prevent them from becoming more deeply etched into the skin.

Fine lines around the outer corners of the eyes develop naturally with smiling and squinting. Treatment can soften these lines while maintaining a natural-looking smile.

Carefully placed neuromodulator injections may subtly influence the balance of the muscles surrounding the eyebrows, creating a more refreshed appearance in appropriately selected patients.

Lines that appear along the sides of the nose when smiling or scrunching the nose can be softened with small amounts of neuromodulator.

A Botox lip flip uses a small amount of neuromodulator around the upper lip to reduce inward rolling of the lip when smiling, allowing slightly more of the upper lip to remain visible.
Unlike dermal filler, a lip flip does not add volume to the lips.

For appropriate candidates, neuromodulator treatment can reduce excessive elevation of the upper lip when smiling, decreasing the amount of gum that is visible.

Overactivity of the mentalis muscle can create a dimpled or textured appearance of the chin. Neuromodulator treatment can relax this muscle and create a smoother appearance.

Treatment of specific lower-face muscles may help reduce the downward pull at the corners of the mouth in appropriately selected patients.

Strategic neuromodulator treatment can sometimes be used to address specific patterns of lower-face muscle activity and support facial balance.  Treatment of the lower face requires a detailed understanding of facial anatomy and is individualized carefully.

Our goal isn't to create a completely frozen face.  Neuromodulator treatment should be tailored to your anatomy, your movement and your preferences.  Some patients prefer very subtle softening with plenty of movement.  Others prefer less movement and a smoother appearance. Neither approach is universally right or wrong.

During your appointment, we'll discuss the result you're hoping to achieve and develop a treatment plan accordingly.

We also believe that Botox isn't the answer to every aesthetic concern.

Lines and facial aging can result from a combination of muscle movement, collagen loss, changes in facial volume, skin laxity, sun damage and changes in skin quality.  When appropriate, we may discuss complementary treatments such as dermal fillers, biostimulators, Fotona laser, Sylfirm X RF microneedling, microneedling or medical-grade skincare as part of a comprehensive treatment plan.

Factors such as treatment area, dose, individual muscle activity, metabolism, physical activity levels, current medications, and previous treatment history can all influence how long your results last.

Over time, muscle movement gradually returns and treatment can be repeated when appropriate.

Botox, Dysport and Nuceiva are different brands of botulinum toxin type A used to temporarily reduce targeted muscle activity. There are differences between the products, including their formulation and dosing. Your provider can discuss which option may be appropriate for you.

There isn't a universal number of units that is appropriate for everyone. Dosing depends on your muscle strength, anatomy, treatment areas, previous treatment history and desired degree of movement reduction.Your provider will assess your facial movement and recommend an individualized dose.

Most people describe neuromodulator injections as brief, small pinches. Treatment is performed with a very fine needle and is generally completed within a few minutes.

There is typically minimal downtime.  Small areas of redness or swelling can occur at injection sites and generally resolve quickly.  Bruising is also possible with any injectable treatment.  Your provider will review appropriate aftercare with you.

In many cases, neuromodulators and hyaluronic acid dermal fillers can be incorporated into the same treatment plan.  Whether they should be performed together depends on the areas being treated and your individual plan.

No.  A lip flip uses a small amount of neuromodulator to alter the movement of the upper lip. It does not add volume.  Hyaluronic acid lip filler adds volume and can alter lip shape and structure.  Some patients may benefit from one treatment, while others may choose a combination.

There is no specific age at which everyone should begin neuromodulator treatment.  Treatment should be based on your anatomy, facial movement, concerns and goals rather than your age alone.

Many patients choose treatment approximately every three to four months, but there is no requirement to maintain a fixed schedule. Your treatment frequency can be individualized based on how long your results last and your personal preferences.
